We chat to Instagram inspiration Nadine Muller about her recent holiday to Club Wyndham Denarau Island, Fiji.
As we set off on our first overseas holiday as a family of four last month, I don’t mind admitting there couldn’t have been a worse time to jet off into the sunset for our much-longed-for holiday in paradise.
In the weeks leading up to our five-night break at Club Wyndham Denarau Island in Fiji, a change in our familial circumstances meant it was touch-and-go as to whether we’d make it at all.
But we’d researched the available activities, made our holiday bucket list and our four-year-old was next-level obsessed with the adventures that awaited.
So, at the eleventh hour, unable to resist the lure of the crystal-clear waters and picture-perfect pristine beaches, we decided to take the holiday and enjoy every single moment. Life would still be waiting when we got back, and this was an opportunity we didn’t want to miss.
At the top of our list of priorities for our five-night escape was creating family memories. We’d had a big year welcoming baby number two into the world well before his due date, and we were keen to spend some time together truly cherishing every precious second.
And holy moly, didn’t we choose the right location!
Babysitters and Bonding Time
The Club Wyndham Denarau Island resort has everything you could possibly desire to make your family holiday dreams come true.
With huge pools and water slides, an array of resort restaurants and cafés, a fully equipped Kids Club, on-site nanny service and organised excursions, we couldn’t have asked for a single thing more!
Okay, let’s be real. We all know holidays are no longer a relaxing experience with small kids running around, but Club Wyndham Denarau Island made this the perfect getaway for us to have a family holiday and have a break as grown-ups too.
With the Kids’ Club open virtually around the clock with incredible activities and a very reliable babysitting service available, we managed to spend quality time as a family and even sneak in some much-needed adults-only time to enjoy the surroundings and re-connect.
I admit we were apprehensive at first of using babysitters purely because we’d actually never done this before, let alone done it overseas. Our boys (then aged four and eight months) are only really used to family, so it was a change for them having someone unfamiliar watching them.
We needn’t have worried! By the time we left, Madden wanted to bring Molly our nanny home with us! We’d spent time with her before we left the boys alone and were confident she’d take care of them as if they were her own and that she did. Molly was caring, considerate, kind and loving – everything a mama wants when she’s leaving her babies!
Getting to Know Denarau Island
I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of the world, and I’m passionate about instilling a love of travel and adventure into my boys too. Our Fijian Island Adventure tour operated by Club Wyndham Denarau Island could not have been a more perfect place to start.
Heading off for the day on our boat, we were treated to our own slice of paradise as we swam with and fed baby sharks, snorkelled in the Fijian reef, viewed the reef through a glass-bottomed boat and sampled delicious Fijian food.
The family-friendly phone-free day was a welcome break from the outside world and the whole family created memories that will last a lifetime. Club Wyndham Denarau Island is more than equipped to deal with our Aussie culinary needs.
While you could sample local delicacies at the restaurants, the range of food and drinks catered to our boys’ delicate palettes, even creating the setting for an exceptionally romantic beachside meal for me and my husband while Molly took care of the kids too – win win!
We spent our days soaking up the resort facilities, filling up on two-for-one cocktails and putting some much-needed power back in our flat batteries. The pressures of home felt a million miles away throughout our break and we returned feeling refreshed and energised and so much more equipped to deal with our day-to-day reality.
