Girt by turquoise ocean and alabaster beaches, Dunsborough is a magical holiday destination just three hours south of Perth. Perfect for snorkelling, kayaking, golf, cycling, hiking or sun-bathing, it offers something for everyone.

Dunsborough, traditionally known as Quedjinup, has a long Aboriginal history with many nearby cultural sites. In addition to these First Nations attractions, there are three absolute must-dos when you arrive in this blissful Western Australian town.

Dunsborough’s Best Attractions

1. Cape Naturaliste

The northernmost part of the Margaret River Region is home to fantastic surf breaks, walking trails and picturesque beaches. Most of the cape is protected by the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and Meelup Nature Reserve, so the main attraction here is the natural beauty of the bushland.

At the tip of the cape is the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, which not only makes for a great photo opportunity but also offers spectacular views. If you time your holiday so that you’re in the region during spring, there’s even a chance of spotting whales on their annual migration.

2. Meelup Beach

Crystal-clear and calm, sheltered Meelup Beach is a gorgeous place to go for a snorkel. White sand engulfs the soft, sloping beach, making it the ideal spot for families.

Sailing boats and yachts often anchor in this wind-sheltered area, and you can enjoy an afternoon swim before dining at eucalypt-shaded picnic tables. Whether you want to bushwalk or just relax on the beach, Meelup is a beautiful option all year round.

Particularly lovely is the view of the full moon rising over the ocean on calm summer evenings. Pack your beach towel, bring someone to snuggle up to, and enjoy the atmosphere.

3. Dolphin Discovery

The most exciting activity on our list is dolphin-watching. During peak season, there are around 260 bottlenose dolphins in Geographe Bay that regularly interact with visitors. The Dolphin Discovery Centre offers both one-hour cruises and three-hour swimming encounters. While there is no guarantee the dolphins will show up, your chances are highest in summer.
